2011 PASG Conference
" Pharmaceutical
Analysis -
Lab of the Future "
9th &10th May
2011, The Kettering Park Hotel and Spa, Kettering
What does ‘Lab of the Future’ mean to you?
Many of us have ideas of the
technology, innovation and collaborative culture that
will shape the future of pharmaceutical analysis .
Pharmaceutical Analysis – Lab of the Future promises to be a
highly topical conference with focus on a number of themes including
Quality by Design, Remote Analysis, Implementing Efficiency Tools
and Lean & Continuous Improvement.
Presentations and posters will convey current experience and
future prospects for these approaches in achieving work process
efficiency and enhanced output. There will be plenty of opportunity
to interact with the speakers both in the Q&As at the end of each
talk, and informally during the two days of the conference. The
conference promises to be a highly enjoyable and interactive survey
of the state of current and potential future practice, with plenty
of opportunity for networking with your peers.
Registration is available online at

Research and Innovation in Pharmaceutical
Analysis
2009 PASG meeting, Huntingdon
Marriot, May 11th and 12th.
The meeting drew delegates
from all the major UK based innovator companies to
hear about the application of innovative approaches
and technologies within the industry, and about
university based analytical research in fields such
as separation science and surface analysis.
Imogen Gill, head of
analytical R&D at Pfizer, set the scene for the
meeting with a presentation on the challenges facing
the industry and the opportunities offered by
innovation. The first day then proceeded with a
mixture of presentations on practical responses to
regulatory and other challenges, and discussions
about longer-term scientific strategy.
The second day focussed on
the research and application of new analytical
science with particular emphasis on methods to
characterise the surfaces of materials and how
they interact with their environment. Other
presentations covered the use of Magnetic
Resonance Imaging methods as a tool to understand
the dissolution behaviour of formulations.

The Analytical Science and Regulation of Pharmaceutical Packaging
A one-day symposium organised jointly with the Joint
Pharmaceutical Analysis Group
(www.jpag.org)
at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
Thursday 3
December 2009
Packaging plays a critical
role in the presentation, distribution and protection
of drug products, as well as for patient convenience
and compliance. Higher regulatory and quality controls
are required for pharmaceutical packaging, especially
for products such as those administered by the
intravenous or inhaled routes which not only rely on
packaging for product integrity or functionality but
present a greater risk to patients from packaging
leachables. A good understanding of packaging effects
can also lead to reductions in stability testing
requirements and to longer shelf lives. This symposium
will examine the current regulatory landscape for
pharmaceutical packaging and the analytical strategies
to assess the quality, safety and efficacy of product
packaging.
