PASG Autumn Conference 2008 - Research and Innovation in Pharmaceutical
Analysis
28th/29th September 2008 - Huntingdon Marriott Hotel Cambridge
The theme of this meeting will be Research and Innovation in
Pharmaceutical Analysis and latest developments in analytical science.
The conference will aim to provide understanding of the EPRSC strategy
for supporting innovation and science, novel developments from academia
and from our colleagues in pharma research. You will also hear updates
from the PASG sub-teams and about New Technologies including where we as
an industry stand on their implementation. It promises to be a highly
focussed, enjoyable survey of the state of the art, with plenty of time
for informal discussion with your peers, and will incorporate a RSC
booth on the Monday afternoon.

Continuous Improvement Meeting - April 2008
A meeting on the application of Continuous Improvement Techniques
(Lean/Six Sigma etc) to Pharma Analysis was held on 22nd April 2008 in
the ABPI London. The meeting was a highly succesful and focussed
discussion and workshop attended by management and analysts involved in
CI initiatives in their respective companies. The output from the
workshop is currently being compiled with a view to potentially
publishing a PASG position paper in this field.
Future Opportunities for the Pharma-Academic Interface
The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing a period of significant change, driven by a number of factors, including;
the increasing complexity of the drug discovery and development process, increasing regulatory
burden and the commoditisation of routine Pharma R&D to low cost countries. Key to our ongoing success within the UK is a focus on
innovation and the development of new scientific talent. The PASG is committed to engaging with UK Academia to drive excellence
in this area. We recently presented our vision at the RSC 2008 Analytical Research Forum - click to view presentation .
If you are a UK academic and wish to contact us please email the webmaster at webmaster@pasg.org.uk
Measurement and Analysis in the Pharma Value Chain
Consistent with our remit to drive the future direction of UK analytical science,
members of the Committee recently attended a workshop to brainstorm Measurement and Analysis in the
Pharma Value Chain – organised under the auspices of the Chemistry Innovation Knowledge Transfer
Network - see here -
at the Future Focus facility in London on 23 April 2008. The aim was to conduct a strategic assessment of
how effectively measurement and analytical science supports the pharma value chain and to identify future needs,
and to identify skills and technology/knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
Around 15 attendess from industry (typically senior analytical management/consultants) attended.
Output will be a position paper that is expected to be used to influence government/research council
spending priorities moving forward.
